Honoring all Black Reproductive Experiences
Author: Kierra Otis (she/they)
As a collective, we center the experiences of all Black pregnant people and their families. We acknowledge that most Black pregnant people are women and experience reproductive oppression based on both their race and gender. We also acknowledge that there are Black pregnant people who are gender-nonconforming, trans, and nonbinary who require reproductive support.
Furthermore, the families of Black pregnant people take various forms. Some families have same-gender parents. Some of these families are small nuclear heterosexual families. Others consist of large extended family networks. Some are mixed-race/multiracial. Some families consist of chosen loved ones.
We honor and hold space for Black women, trans, and gender-nonconforming pregnant people and their various familial configurations.
