postpartum support

the first 40 days after birth should be an intentional time of recuperation, bonding and healing.

With a culture so heavily focused on pregnancy, we often find ourselves forgetting about the “fourth trimester” which can be such a crucial time for both baby and parents.

Your postpartum support should be there to help guide you through the transition into parenthood by offering:

  • self-care options to help you recuperate and heal from labor

  • light housework to help keep you on the right track

  • intentional meal prep for optimal healing

  • some newborn care as needed (I.E. you can take a shower in peace)

  • help with infant feeding issues and nutritional guidance

  • emotional support for both you and your partner as you transition into the most important time of your lives

FAQs

Who hires a postpartum doula?

A lot of people aren’t aware that these services of support exist as we so often ignore the postpartum healing period altogether and focus more on babies needs than parents. Whether this is your first or third baby, having the extra guided support during this time is crucial to a smooth transition into parenthood.

are you there to take care of my baby?

If that is the care that you feel you need, then your postpartum doula can aid in newborn care while you take a shower or nap. We are there to help you navigate parenthood in whatever capacity that looks like for you. We can aid in bonding time for parents, feeding set up, bath times — and help you find the best tools that work for your family.

When should I find a postpartum doula?

There is no wrong time to begin your search for a postpartum doula, and you should do so when is comfortable to you. We would recommend beginning your search mid-pregnancy so that you can get to know your support team and set a plan up for successful healing.

how long should I have a postpartum doula?

This answer will be different for all families but we typically suggest having some sort of postpartum support set in place for the first month after delivery.

We are here to help you figure out what the right care plan looks like for your families needs to ensure a happy and healthy “fourth trimester”.

Can I have a postpartum doula if i had a c-section?

YES! And if you haven’t had doula support for cesarean birth in the past, it is something to highly consider. This is a major transformation of your body and you need the time to rest and heal. Your postpartum doula is your feet on the ground, helping you with whatever it is you need to get back to full health.

My family will be around, can’t they be my pp doula?

We are happy to hear that you will have family support after baby is earthside!

To put it simply: your family is emotionally invested in you and your baby. Your doula will provide you with thoughtful support, however it will always be objective and evidence-based with a focus on your well-being and recovery.
